My Life in Córdoba
Going on an Erasmus exchange program in Córdoba, in the South of Spain was an adventure that changed my life. Every moment was a chance for me to learn and discover more about myself. I will share with you my personal journey as a student and give you my honest opinion on whether this destination is worth it.

Why Did I Do Erasmus in Spain?
When I was studying for an International Business degree in Paris, my faculty offered us the chance to study or intern abroad. Being passionate about travel, I applied to study in Spain and was really happy when my application was accepted. I enrolled at a university in Cordoba, chose my courses, and packed my bags for my new adventure in 2022!
The Charm of Córdoba
Córdoba is a pretty and calm city located in the southern region of Andalusia in Spain. The streets, monuments, great architecture, and people make Córdoba so special and make every day feel like a journey through history. Córdoba’s rich past is still a part of its present, which makes it unique. Read more about this city at 10 Best Things to Do in Cordoba, Spain.

The Academic Life
My university was Universidad de Córdoba (http://www.uco.es/), where I studied languages and tourism. Studying there was an experience quite different from my university in Paris. With less school work and more free time, I enjoyed the course and my time at the university. This relaxed atmosphere at school allowed me to feel more at ease and helped me get good grades. The focus was more on debates and discussions rather than just theory and writing. The environment was perfect for learning and the teachers made me feel comfortable by helping me and treating me well.

New Language and Culture
Spain has a rich culture and lifestyle that is truly captivating. From the cuisine to their cultural heritage, you can see that every day is a new experience. And I have embraced it!
When I was in Córdoba, speaking in Spanish was important to connect with the locals and fully experience their culture. It made my life there so much easier. By talking to them, learning their customs, and adapting to the Spanish way of life, my time there was enriched. I truly recommend learning Spanish and making an effort to speak with the locals in their language. They appreciate when foreigners try to understand their culture and language and are more likely to be friends with you. Spanish is a beautiful language, and learning it is a wonderful opportunity.

Córdoban Hospitality
Living in this city was incredible because of the locals. The people of Córdoba are famous for being friendly and welcoming, and it’s true! As I arrived, they greeted me and made me feel at home in their community. Even though I was a foreigner, they made an effort to assist me and engage in conversation. I loved how they used kind words like “cariño” or “preciosa” when speaking to me or each other. Whenever I felt lost, there was always someone who approached me and offered their help. I feel so fortunate to have been able to meet such kindhearted people!
The Siesta Culture
During the summer, I was a little bit surprised to see some stores closing in the afternoons because of the heat. One time, I went to the market to buy something, but it was unexpectedly closed. At first, I found it challenging to adjust to the well-known Spanish siesta culture. Yet, I understood its meaning in our daily life. It allows us to rest during the hot weather and enjoy the city later on. Now I am completely enjoying the siesta culture!
Exploring Andalusia and Beyond
As Córdoba is in Andalusia, it is an ideal starting point for exploring the southern region of Spain. From Seville to Granada, I visited iconic cities, each having its own distinct charm. Besides, I also traveled to cities in the northern part of the country, such as Madrid and Toledo. I even visited Portugal, which was an incredible travel experience. As a travel addict, I was happy to be able to travel at least twice a month during that time, and I genuinely enjoyed every moment of it.
If you study in Córdoba, know that there are some organizations for foreign students. I was in one of them called Erasmus Family Cordoba (https://www.cordoba-erasmus.com/). By joining an organization like this, you’ll find new friends from all over the world, travel, explore the city, do activities, and get help if you need to.
